On 30 July 2024, Member of Parliament Dr Anna Christmann (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) visited Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) to find out about projects in the new DATIpilot funding framework. In the presence of Prof Dr Volker Epping, President of LUH, and Prof Dr Josef von Helden, President of Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSH), as well as other project representatives, the focus of the visit was on the ReGaP innovation community coordinated by LUH.
The L3S research centre plays a key role in the ReGaP project, which was one of 20 innovation communities to beat 480 competitors for funding as part of DATIpilot. ReGaP is dedicated to the highly relevant topic of AI-based, verifiable energy reduction in industrial production.
The core team of ReGaP, consisting of Dr Claudia Niederée (L3S Research Centre), Dr Holger Eichelberger (University of Hildesheim, Software Systems Engineering), Dr Thomas Lepper (LUH, Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools), as well as Dr Georg Leuteritz and Malte Worzischek (Hannover Impuls GmbH), presented ideas, concepts and the planned work for the project.
In conversation with Dr Anna Christmann, they also discussed their experiences to date with the application process and the DATIpilot innovation sprints currently underway in the region. DATIpilot, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, aims to accelerate the transfer of knowledge from research to application.
