On July 3, the Leaders Dialog Digital Transformation took place in Kassel, which was dedicated to the potentials and challenges of the digital transformation of the economy and society. Around 30 executives from applied research, the IT industry and user industries discussed the maturity of new technologies, data- and knowledge-driven application methods, practical examples and necessary measures in politics, business and research.
Dr. Johannes Winter, Chief Scientific Officer of the L3S research center and Managing Director of CAIMed – the Lower Saxony Centre for AI and Causal Methods in Medicine, was one of the prominent speakers. In his lecture “Leveraging AI and Causal Methods to Enable Personalized Medicine for Optimal Patient Outcomes”, he presented the mission and roadmap of CAIMed, a lighthouse project of the L3S. This project brings together AI researchers and physicians with the aim of advancing research into AI methods in medicine and thus making a significant contribution to improving healthcare.
Dr Winter emphasized the enormous potential opened up by the use of artificial intelligence and causal methods: from clinical decision support at the cutting edge of knowledge to personalized therapy approaches and improved monitoring of therapeutic success. These technologies can make a significant contribution to combating widespread diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections more effectively.
In order to achieve these goals, Dr. Winter emphasized the need for excellent AI research with a clear focus on medical applications. As part of CAIMed, the L3S will be working intensively in the coming years to advance research and thus make a significant contribution to improving healthcare.
