The L3S Research Center recently held its Advisory Board meeting, focusing on the balance between AI ambition and accountability to foster trustworthy AI. The board members provided key insights, reinforcing L3S’s strategic direction in advancing AI research and technology transfer.
Since launching its strategic process in 2023, L3S has built on its strong research foundation, marked by successful ERC grants, high-impact publications, and increased third-party funding supporting a global network of over 200 researchers.
Recent milestones include:
- CAIMed: Advancing AI and causal methods in medicine
- KISSKI AI Service Center: Enhancing compute infrastructure
- DAISEC: Supporting SMEs and regional innovation in AI and cybersecurity as a European Digital Innovation Hub
- Research Excellence: 8 ERC Grants in 10 years and engagement in Excellence Clusters
L3S has been a frontrunner in Generative AI, conducting research on large language models (LLMs) and multimodal systems well before the rise of ChatGPT and Copilot. Recognizing AI’s rapid evolution, the center is shaping its L3S Strategy 2030 to position itself among Germany’s top five AI research centers, driving responsible innovation and societal impact.
