Dr Bruno José Torres Fernandes, Associate Professor at the University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, will be joining L3S in October as a CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellow. He will be hosted by Prof Dr Wolfgang Nejdl.
The Brazilian science funding organisation CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation launched the CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship Programme in 2013 to support post-docs and experienced researchers from Brazil in their research projects in Germany. As a fellow, Fernandes will benefit from individual support from the Humboldt Foundation and its diverse sponsorship portfolio.
At L3S, Fernandes will work on the research project “Self-supervised Deep Federated Learning for Anomalous Gesture Detection” and collaborate with L3S research group leader Dr Nicolás Navarro-Guerrero, who supported the application for the research fellowship.
Fernandes will initially stay at L3S until the beginning of January 2025, followed by a one-year research stay from July 2025. The Brazilian scientist will return to Hannover for a further three months in June 2027.
