LUMEN: Interdisciplinary Data Infrastructure to Promote Collaboration

Transforming research collaboration in mathematics, social sciences and humanities (SSH), earth systems and molecular dynamics – this is the aim of the new LUMEN project in which the L3S is involved.

LUMEN stands for Linked User-driven Multidisciplinary Exploration Network. Building on the success of the GoTriple platform, which is already widely used in the social sciences and humanities, LUMEN will open up new ways of making research data easier to find and use. LUMEN will address interdisciplinary challenges by extending the GoTriple platform for SSH and creating discovery tools for mathematics, earth systems and molecular dynamics.

The project is helping to connect new scientific communities across disciplinary boundaries. LUMEN will make a significant contribution to the modernisation of research infrastructures in Europe and will strengthen interdisciplinary dialogue and scientific cooperation at the international level.

Coordinated by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), LUMEN brings together 17 academic and industrial partners from 10 different countries. At L3S, the project is managed by Prof Dr Sören Auer together with Jan Wiebelitz.

Funded by the European Commission the project started in January 2025 and will run until December 2027 and its results will be integrated into the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
